Stakesby thrashed mid table Filey to record their first win of the season at the Showfield. Arms raced into the lead with a comical own goal when the away keeper claimed a corner, and in his eagerness to release the ball up field, kicked it straight against his own defender and it rebounded into the net for 1-0. It was soon 2 - 0 to the home side when Sam Wood scored his 1st of the season, and it got even better when top scorer Damon Craig's scuffed effort somehow made it past the fragile away keeper. Filey clawed one back through Powell before a second own goal but the Arms 4-1 up after 19 minutes. Filey did nick one back through Powell but Woods Lob in the 45th minute restored the 3 goal cushion at the break, Stakesby leading 5-2. The second half was rather one sided as Hoggarth rounded off the move of the match knocking home on the volley from 10 yards after some good work on the wing by Andy martin. The returning Mike Headlam scored number 7 with a neat finish from 18 yards, Player manager Howard soon made it 8-2 with an 18 yard strike, before top scorer Craig scored number 9 in the dying seconds after Filey were reduced to ten men for foul and abusive language. All in all a fine win for the home side who will look to build against top of the league Ayton next Saturday.
