Arms Pick Up Vital Win At Rillington

Stakesby Arms picked up a vital 2 points with a 1-0 win over basement club Rillington Athletic at Rillington Sports Field.

The condition of the pitch was questionable with mole hills just left and the away team doing their own ground work flattening them out just to get the surface flattish before kick off as the home team did nothing to try improve the surface.

Both team struggled to get the ball under control and it was the away side who did most of the running for the first period, the impressive Andy Martin giving the home right back a torrid time down the left. Howard had the miss of the half when squandering a chance from 3 yards out, before Fish made a point blank save to keep the teams level at the break. he second half saw the Arms lead when Howard atoned for his earlier miss by lashing home in off the bar when latching onto Martins through ball for 1-0. The away side pressed to put the game beyond doubt but were guilty of been wasteful in the final third and were almost made to pay when Fish was called in to make a fine point bank save to preserve the 1-0 lead.

Rillington upped it in the last 10 minutes but couldn't find a way through the Arms backline and the points deservedly went back to Whitby.
